My sister Sarah is about to birth an amazing tiny human daughter, Charlee. At 30 weeks prego, we took a trip to New Smyrna Beach, searching for some maternity photographs. I am beyond excited about this entire process, and all of the Charlee photos that will surely transpire. It’s these special moments that keep me falling in love with photography. Having the chance to capture this day with my sister could not be anymore rewarding.
We arrived at Smyrna Dunes Park around 6pm with a few beers, a jambox, and a camera, which is pretty much a recipe for sweet pictures. Before we could start snapping away, we had to walk about 14 miles to the part of the park where waves crash against giant rocks, and birds sing songs of love. It was more like 1 mile, and the walk to the beach was beautiful. The sun was playing hide and seek with us, and Sarah was working up a sweat. Perfect!
Spending time with Sarah, Josh, and 30 week old Charlee was so much fun. It didn’t even feel like I was taking photos. We would just walk around and casually snap shots, making sure to stop for boat watching and dune rolling. Dune rolling is a bit like hill rolling, if you were wondering.
I stuck to my 50mm and 85mm for the majority of the shoot, with a couple of wider and macro shots sprinkled in. My processing did include going back in forth from Photoshop and Lightroom, which I’m trying to do less and less. I’m really in love with the tones and colors of these photos.
I will cherish these photos forever!
